During the Pandemic opening times and services are limited ...
check before visiting.

The Oldham Branch is able to offer advice with Family History research, after the monthly meetings, but is unable to offer a helpdesk with computer access.

However, on the Oldham Local Studies website, under the heading of 'Family History', we can read, "Oldham Local Studies and Archives organises a variety of events to help with your family history. Expert family advice is available every Monday and Wednesday, 2–4pm."

At the Local Studies there is also access to computers with research sites such as 'Ancestry' and 'Find My Past' on them; archived newspapers are available on film readers. There are open bookshelves for general research and browsing, and other archived material can be requested.

Before the lockdown, in March, Crompton Library were running free 6 week courses on researching Family History. Hopefully, the courses will start again when restrictions are lifted. I will keep this page updated with any developments and will also post any changes in the monthly Branch newsletter, which you can read on line from the archived copies or sign up for a monthly email link to the current one.

And, of course, in these times of more limited activities, members of the society can sign up for the email forum, in which subscribers can post requests for help and offer help and answers themselves.
