Oldham Railways – the early years from 1847 to 1880
In 1847 , building the railways was planned to proceed on a number different fronts
The extension from Werneth to the Mumps area was the subject of a separate act which was already passed. Work on this including the two tunnels was done without much problem.
The rest of the lines needed another act of parliament. This was the Oldham Alliance Railway Act of 1847.
