| JONES | William | Pte. | | V.C. This Plaque commemorates the burial of Pte Jones of the 24th Regiment of Foot (later the South Wales Borderers). In Philips Park Cemetery. "Private Jones was awarded the V.C, for his part in the defence of the mission station at Rorkes Drift in Natal Province, South Africa. Against thousands of Zulu Warriors during January 22nd - 23rd 1879" Private Jones died on 15th April 1913 aged 73 years and is buried in section D.887 (C of E) of the cemetery. |
